What can acupuncture treat

September 26th, 2015 /

what can acupuncture treat” the short answer to this question is, acupuncture can help almost all health issues. In China acupuncture has been used for thousands of years acupuncture falls under the category of  traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) there are three therapies involved in TCM,

1.) Acupuncture

2.) Herbal medicine and

3.) Tui-Na (Chinese remedial massage)

These three therapies form the basis of Chinese medicine which is a complete medical system and over the years thousands of clinical trials have demonstrated acupunctures ability to treat a wide array of health issues.

In clinical practice, however the majority of  patients tend to make acupuncture appointments to treat some type of pain syndrome, such as: neck, shoulder, hip, back, or wrist pain to name but a few. These pains may have developed slowly over a few weeks or even years or they may be the result of a trauma, such as an accident.

From acute to chronic pain acupuncturists regularly treat all of the above mentioned syndromes plus many more such as: Sciatica, migraine headaches and the pains associated with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.

However acupuncture treatment is not limited to treating pain syndromes, for example, over the last 40 years or so acupuncture has been put to the test, probably more so than any other therapy resulting in thousands of clinical studies on every type of health issue you can imagine.

In 2003 the World Health Organisation (WHO) carried out a review of studies previously completed on acupuncture, this resulted in WHO publishing their findings, which stated: That acupuncture is capable of treating over 90 health conditions and 50 of those conditions are treated more successfully with acupuncture alone than with both surgery and prescription medication combined.

So from all of this it now becomes clear that acupuncture is capable of treating conditions well beyond pain syndromes,  Acupuncturists regularly treat conditions such as menopause, addictions (Smoking) anxiety, depression and infertility, I also regularly treat digestive issues such as diarrhoea, bloating, Crohns disease, vertigo, and hay fever.

As you can see, acupuncture is not limited to treating only pain syndromes. We also regularly treat many health conditions which include: hormonal issues such as: menopause and irregular and painful menstruation, digestive complaints of all types, including IBS and IBD, bell’s palsy, anxiety and a wide array of urinary issues are also ailments treated at Acu-Care Naturopathics.

Not only does acupuncture treat chronic health complaints, it also works as a preventative treatment or can  be used to relieve the early stages of an illness.

As with any form of medicine acupuncture cannot reverse tissue damage so although it can reduce pain, stiffness and swelling and improve mobility in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis for example it cannot reverse any muscle wasting or bone deformities that have already occurred in the body.
