Conditions we treat

April 29th, 2015 /

Two of the most common questions that people generally ask an acupuncturist are:

1.) What can acupuncture treat.

2.) How does acupuncture work.

The answer to both of those questions is never straight forward, however if you would like the answer to question 2. please click on: About Acupuncture. If you would like to know what conditions we treat and in general what conditions acupuncture treats, then please read on.

So “what can acupuncture treat” the short answer to this question is, acupuncture can help almost all health issues. In China acupuncture has been used for thousands of years acupuncture falls under the category of  traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) there are three therapies involved in TCM,

1.) Acupuncture

2.) Herbal medicine and

 3.) Tui-Na (Chinese remedial massage)

These three therapies form the basis of Chinese medicine which is a complete medical system and over the years thousands of clinical trials have demonstrated acupuncture’s ability to treat a wide array of health issues.

In clinical practice, however the majority of  patients tend to make acupuncture appointments to treat some type of pain syndrome, such as: neck, shoulder, hip, back, or wrist pain to name but a few. These pains may have developed slowly over a few weeks or even years or they may be the result of a trauma, such as an accident.

From acute to chronic pain acupuncturists regularly treat all of the above mentioned syndromes plus many more such as: Sciatica, migraine headaches and the pains associated with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.

However acupuncture treatment is not limited to treating pain syndromes, for example, over the last 40 years or so acupuncture has been put to the test, probably more so than any other therapy resulting in thousands of clinical studies on every type of health issue you can imagine.

In 2003 the World Health Organisation (WHO) carried out a review of studies previously completed on acupuncture, this resulted in WHO publishing their findings, which stated: That acupuncture is capable of treating over 200 health conditions and 70 of those conditions are treated more successfully with acupuncture alone than with both surgery and prescription medication combined.

So from all of this it now becomes clear that acupuncture is capable of treating conditions well beyond pain syndromes,  Acupuncturists regularly treat conditions such as menopause, addictions (Smoking) anxiety, depression and infertility, I also regularly treat digestive issues such as diarrhoea, bloating, Crohns disease, vertigo, and hay fever.

At Acu-Care I not only treat all of the above mentioned conditions but also: Trigeminal neuralgia, Bells palsy, painful or irregular menstruation, Children’s bed wetting, sinusitis, all of these conditions and more are regularly treated at Acu-Care Naturopathics with acupuncture therapy.

Acupuncture also helps in the following area’s.

1.) Works as a preventative.

2.) Treats both acute and chronic condition

3.) Improves well being.

4.) Is a drug free treatment a natural holistic choice.

5.) Helps to boost energy levels.

6.) Helps to balance blood pressure.

7.) Is a boost to the immune system.

8.)  Can help to improve the quality of sleep

9.) Helps to decrease pain levels.

10.) Helps to reduce inflammation and improves range of motion.

 Acupuncture will not.

1.) Cure you with one treatment.

2.) Cannot reverse bone deformities or degeneration that has already occurred.

3.) will not reverse terminal conditions

For lasting results acupuncture works as a series of treatments, for example: Tennis elbow is a common complaint and can be extremely debilitating, acupuncture is the only therapy that can quickly cure this problem and should you suffer from tennis elbow and choose to do nothing about it, then you will likely have it for the next 2-3 years. With acupuncture treatment 3 times per week for a total of 6 to 9 appointments (2-3 weeks generally cures this condition).

Another example is Trigemenal neuralgia, clinical trials and my own personal clinical experience, using acupuncture as a therapy to alleviate the pain, is carried out over a 7 week period with two appointments weekly totaling 14 appointments for lasting results..

As you can now see, Acupuncture has many benefits and is capable of treating many of today’s health problems.

Regardless of your medically diagnosed condition acupuncture and natural medicine has something to offer.
